ABOUT

I am not your typical therapist.
I provide a loving and caring therapeutic environment. I recognize that people need not only a seasoned professional with my extensive training and experience, but also a caring, compassionate person on their side.
Connection & Collaboration
Patients often tell me that they can connect with me and be open in treatment because they believe I am real. They discover that they are not alone with their problems and realize that I truly care about the outcome of their treatment.
My unique collaborative and interactive style has led patients to say how deeply appreciative they are for my presence and care during sessions, which enables them to feel safe and free to talk about their problems.
"Awesome, you're the best. This is going to be good. I've never connected with a therapist before."
Unfortunately, people often think of therapy as embarrassing, scary, or painful, or they believe that things can never change for them, or even that they are not worthy of seeking help. However, many patients tell me how surprised they are to enjoy and look forward to our sessions.
We find the strength to deeply explore often difficult issues, and we remember to laugh together, build relationships, and celebrate discovery and growth. I am very confident that with your open heart and willingness to work, we can get you to where you want to and deserve to be.
You become what you believe!
Our internal world dictates our whole life experience; therefore, paying attention to and caring for our mental health must be a top priority.
If we don't take control of thoughts and challenge our negative belief systems and thinking patterns, we will continue to find ourselves in painful places where we would rather not be. We cannot run from or ignore our problems and emotions. They will stay with us until we face them.
A powerful and compelling truth I've learned from my practice in psychotherapy is that people become what they believe. With my expertise, compassion, energy, and connection, I can guide you to believe in yourself and to pursue your dreams.
Specialty: Addiction - Adolescents & Middle Schoolers
My specialty is addiction treatment, with a focus on teenagers and middle school students. Addiction is also a component of self-harm behaviors, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression.
It takes a certain kind of person to be able to connect with adolescents. Parents often tell me that their child was unable to connect with multiple other therapists before doing so with me. My approach of collaboration, transparency, and caring, which allows for and encourages growth and progress, are what children need in therapy.
"I think the EMDR is working today. This is the happiest I have been in a long time, and I even forgot to take my SSRI. I am interested in things again. This is how I was before. I had so much energy and optimism in life, and I am getting it back now. I realized that I have not had as many PTSD symptoms."
Experience
I have over 15 years of experience in the psychotherapy field with extensive clinical experience. I utilize CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which works really well for self-esteem, depression, and anxiety issues. I also frequently apply my DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills and incorporate them into treatment. DBT is particularly effective with teenage and middle schoolers suffering from eating disorders, self-harm, addiction, depression, and anxiety.
I am also trained in MDFT (Multidimensional Family Therapy), which is great for healing relationships and increasing communication between family members. This therapy is also effective with addiction issues.
Finally, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a fairly new technique that is getting a lot of attention in healing PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) symptoms as well as smaller traumas. I have co-led Intensive Outpatient treatment programs for teenagers and young adults utilizing EMDR, and I am amazed at its effectiveness.
